2019 Mosquito Wrap-up Tournament

From June 13 to 16, our Mosquito Wrap-Up Tournament ran at Bramblewood and Town Centre parks. After an interlocked schedule all season. Port Coquitlam Minor's teams joined in the wrap-up to make 3 pools with 11 teams.

It was a beautiful weekend with multiple teams choosing to stay at Bramblewood between games, some ordering in piles of pizza with others organizing team barbeques behind the backstops.

After the initial pool play, CMMBA's Astros and Red Sox faced PCMBA's Royals and Green Hornets in the semi-finals. The Astros and Hornets had a hard-fought game, with the Astros ultimately getting their bats going to clinch a berth in the final with a 15-8 win. The Red Sox got shutout pitching from Mathias Fruhm to smother the Royals and advance in under one hour, meaning the weekend's top CMMBA teams would meet in the Final.

In the final the Red Sox rode great shutout pitching from Jimmy Mellios and Lucas Bechard to get a 9-0 win and the 1st-place title, with the Astros playing hard and taking home 2nd-place medals.

Big thanks go out to the coaches, players, parents, umpires and CMMBA Executive members who helped create a great tournament and fun wrap-up for the Mosquito spring season.

Kathy Thomas Memorial Tournament Winners - CMMBA Mosquito Red Sox

On the May long weekend, two CMMBA Mosquito teams entered Surrey's Kathy Thomas Memorial Tournament. After the initial round-robin, CMMBA's Canadians were eliminated but the Red Sox continued on to the semi-finals.

Unfortunately the tournament playoffs were a complete rainout, and the Red Sox faced the Burnaby Braves at Town Centre the next day. That game was a well-played low-scoring game, with the CMMBA Red Sox advancing to the Finals on excellent pitching from Mathias Fruhm.

The finals were played 2 days later in Newton. The game was a back-and-forth classic with pitching delivered by Lucas Bechard and Jimmy Mellios. The Red Sox fell behind early, surged ahead after 5 innings and allowed a tie after the open 6th inning. For the top of the extra inning, catcher Elijah Duifhuis came in as the closing pitcher and held Newton to one run. The bottom of the inning saw the top of the Red Sox lineup, who quickly scoerd 2 runs for an exciting win.

For the tournament, CMMBA's Red Sox lineup included Elijah Duifhuis, Karim Eldessouki, Mathias Fruhm, Jimmy Mellios, Lucas Bechard, Sohrab Behmanesh, Carter Rettie, Alexander Stone, Evan Dosen and Blade Everest, along with Spencer Kelly for one game.
