BC Baseball Updates

Please read below link dated 5/22/20 regarding return to play published by BC Minor baseball

BC Minor Baseball 5.22.20.pdf

May 9th - We hope that you and your family are staying healthy and safe during this ongoing health crisis.

The announcement from Premier John Horgan on May 6th provides some additional optimism around a return to play for baseball this season. Since that announcement we have received numerous questions regarding the potential for baseball this year and we wanted to provide this update for all of our members.

Of course any return to play will be dependent on the direction of health authorities, field availability from the cities, and a responsible plan with protocols on how baseball will be delivered, including possible rule changes for game-play and officiating in order to provide a safe environment for all participants.

In late April, Baseball BC established a working group and has taken input from local associations regarding how to prepare for a return to baseball activities. Baseball BC is collaborating with Softball BC to consider changes to the way baseball could be delivered this season and they are working with Sport BC as well as BC Recreation and Park Association (BCRPA) on return to play protocols. Baseball B.C. will be meeting with Viasport Early next week to go over the guidelines. Viasport (www.viasport.ca), who has been designated by the government to review and approve these protocols with the health authorities.

Based on the recent information, we anticipate that we will be able to provide a baseball experience this season!!! We will continue to provide updates regarding details of the recommended protocols and timing of possible return to play as we learn more about the situation.

In the interim we have rescheduled previously planned events:

  • Jevon Clarke Tournament (May 28-31) - postponed and to be rescheduled
  • AGM (June 3) - postponed and to be rescheduled

Again, as a non-profit organization that is driven by membership fees, we are sensitive to cash flow challenges such as presented by this health crisis. We ask that you refrain from asking for a refund, at least for the time being. While the financial status of the association is a concern, we understand that this may pale in comparison to the financial hardship faced by some families and if you are in need of a refund for your 2020 registration please contact president@cmmba.com.

Thanks…and stay safe.
